What is an MOT?

An MOT is a certification produced by a DVSA (Driver and Vehicle Standards Authority) approved and qualified technician. All Vehicles need them, Cars, Cans, Motorhome or Camper and we can do them all. The certificate shows that your vehicle is in a roadworthy condition at the time of test. It is a legal requirement for all vehicles over the age of 3 years to have a valid MOT certificate. This is to ensure that the vehicle meets the minimum environmental and safety standards set out through government legislation. Without a valid MOT certificate, you will be unable to renew your road tax and your insurance may be invalid.

You can present your vehicle for an MOT up to 28 days before your current certificate expires, any additional days will be added onto your new certificate. We even set up email or postal reminders for next year, usually sent 4 weeks before your certificate expires.

How long will an MOT take?

An MOT will take approximately 45 minutes to complete, during which time you can use our modern reception area that offers free refreshments and magazines whilst you wait. Alternatively, you can leave the vehicle with us and pick it up at a time that is convenient to you. Please be sure to arrive at least 5 minutes before your booking time to allow for any paperwork to be completed.

How much is an MOT test for my car and is it the same cost for my Class 7 van?

An MOT is priced by the DVSA at £54.85 for cars and vans up to 3000kg (Class 4) and £58.60 for vehicles up to 3500kg. At Abacus Auto Services, we discount the cost of a Class 4 MOT to £49.95 or £40.00 if booked together with any of our fixed price services. For Class 7, this is discounted to £55.95 or £45.95 if taken with a service.

Can I book my MOT online?

Yes, we have a fully automated booking system that links directly to our in-house diary. You will be able to see our availability and book an MOT at a time that suits you.
